We recently extracted data from a legacy UNIX based accounting system for a dentist. The information was then imported into a new Windows-based accounting system.  Less time was spent on initial setup.

Whenever data is re-typed, errors are introduced into the data.  Numbers and letters can be transposed.  Information is left out.  By migrating data, information that has already been verified, can be imported into a new accounting system without change.

We can also help clean up the data.  For example, sometimes employees may enter the state code of an address as N.Y. or Ohio.  We can search for these types of error and correct the errors using programming techniques.  In a  large database, making these corrections manually may take a long time.
